Just another day in paradise

It was another pretty hot day here, but it is far from paradise. LOL But it was a busy day none the less!

Yesterday my best friend of the last 13 years left town and moved to Albany (about 10 hours away from here!) and I miss her terribly already. She was always only 3 mins away and we would catch up at least 2 or 2 times a week and have lunch on Fridays as we both only work 4 days a week. Now what will I do?? I am feeling lonely already and I really miss her company.

Then today Gerard left for Papua New Guinea for 3 weeks. I was going to take him to the airport but 2 hours before we were due to leave I got a call at work saying the Weight Watchers leader was sick and so I had to take the meeting. Which meant we couldn't drive him to the airport to say our goodbyes like we usually do. Needless to say the girls were not very happy with that arrangement! The good thing to come out of it though was I didn't have time to get too nervous.

Tomorrow I have the day off and I get to start the day off with my annual pap smear - I know you're jealous right!! then I have to run some errands and organise all those last minute back to school things and label all the pencils etc for school on Monday. Already I am looking forward to next Friday, when I have my first day off ALONE in over 2 months!

Now back to the pap smear - if you haven't had one in a while and are overdue, consider this a friendly reminder! I am actually excited because if everything is okay this time (which I am sure it will be) it will mean 5 years of clear test results and then I get to go back to having them every two years instead of every year.

Part of me thinks that I should stick to having them yearly because it is easier to remember rather than having to think whether it is an off year or not. And since I have a bit of a history then I do feel a bit better knowing everything is okay. Plus if there are any problems I like to think I will catch it early.

Then I plan to spend at least part of the weekend doing some of the new February challenges that will be posted at 123-Scrap!

Whatever your plans for the weekend, have a good one!!

Middle Name Game

I got this from Pam! (who has the same middle name as me!)

Here are the rules:
1. You have to post the rules before you give your answers.
2. You must list one fact about yourself beginning with each letter of your middle name. (If you don't have a middle name, use your maiden name).
3. After you are tagged, you need to update your blog with your middle name and your answers.
4. At the end of your blog post, you can tag one person for each letter of your middle name. (Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged and that they need to read your blog for details.)

What she said "It's supposed to be a tag but I'm not tagging anyone, if you want to play come back here and let me know so I can read your version!"

M - Mother
A - animal lover
R - really loves chocolate!
I - into stamping and scrapbooking
E - excessive, in so many ways!

More creative stuff

In between cleaning, washing and having visitors (and of course making lunch and dinner)I managed to get a few pages done today. Quite good considering! First of all, I added a second page to the layout I showed you yesterday. And then I scrapped some photos of a couple of my gorgeous nephews. Tomorrow it's back to work :(

PS: if you would like more information on the products used on the layouts you will find it at My Gallery at 123-Scrap!

Just a layout (& a card and a frame)

Did a quick layout today for the January Add-On challenge at 123-Scrap! These pics are from a girls weekend away to Margaret River in April last year. It feels good to finally be getting some scrapping done again!

And while I'm here I will share this card and frame I made for my BF Kathleen (in the layout above). She is leaving town on Tuesday for good (sniff, sniff). We have been best friends for almost 13 years and I am REALLY going to miss her! This town will certainly feel a lot emptier to me when she is gone.

(The card I had in my favourite file but I can 't remember who originally made it).

Just a quickie

I always struggle with cards for boys. I have so many flowers, and pretty ribbons and it's hard not to add them to a card. Let alone the FAIRY DUST!!

So today I had to come up with a card for my best friend's son who is 12. I tried to keep it as simple as possible and still masculine. I hope he likes it!! But like any 12yo child, he probably won't even look twice at the card. LOL

Edited to add: I just thought I'd do a quick gift bag to go with this card since I am out of wrapping paper!

Happy Australia Day!

We celebrated Australia Day by going to a breakfast celebration at the local park. The girls Freefall Drama Group also performed their first live original play for 2008 - and they did such a great job! They played security guards for the Prime Minister. Maddie gets terrible stage fright but she remembered all of her lines and they were both fantastic, I was one proud Mum I can tell you!

This afternoon we are going to an Australia Day bbq, and for a swim. Whatever you are doing I hope you have a great day. Happy Australia Day!

A quick card

And I mean quick! lol Took all of 5 minutes. One of the girls over at 123-Scrap! had a beautiful baby boy yesterday so I just did this quick card to send off in the morning and thought I'd share it. I like how it turned out.
Embossed background was done with the Cuttlebug, cardstock (in cool carribean and kraft) and stamp by Stampin'Up!

This green/brown one was a gift card done as part of a set for the school fete.

A Lazy Scrappy Sunday

I managed to spend some time in my room today and got a couple of layouts and a card done. With a bit of luck I may even get some more done after dinner! These two layouts were both for challenges over at 123-Scrap! The 'it's a date' page was done using a great sketch created by Andrea. I kept Gerard's birthday layout pretty simple because he doesn't like his pages too fancy ;)

The card is just a quick one to send with a parcel to my mother-in-law

2 more layouts

Just a couple of layouts done for the January challenges over at 123-Scrap! This first one is Maddie and her cousin Sarah. The second one is of my new Godson's christening. Both scans have been a little chopped off at the bottom.

Creative projects

Here are a couple of little projects I have done in the last week. The altered tin was for a challenge at 123-Scrap! and the 'Focus' sign was also for one of the topics which was 'what was your word for 2008?' I made the canvas to hang in my scrap room to remind me of my word.

Creative Space - Updated

Someone was asking me where I scrap and how I organise all my 'stuff' so I thought I would just post a couple of recent pics (taken last weekend). This is how my room looks at the moment, although it is always evolving :)

I have 2 trestle tables with room to have a friend over to scrap :)
(I still need to add some curtains)
Shelves containing stamps (in black drawers), patterned paper and lots of other 'stuff'.
My main work area.

A Layout Share

Just thought I'd quickly share a layout I did this week. (It is for a challenge over at 123-Scrap!).

For my scrapbooking friends, if you are looking for some scrap related challenges be sure go over and check them out, there are some awesome ones up for January!

Some Sydney Pics

Okay so between us with four cameras we took a LOT of pics, so I thought I would start by sharing just a few for now. (See post below for updated blog post)

Above: All of the cousins on Gerard's side of the family (pictured with Gerards mum)
Below: Gerard and I went for a romantic dinner on a floating restaurant at Darling Harbour!

Happy New Year!

I have been so slack with my blog posting the last few months! First it was computer problems, and then I was away in Sydney for three weeks and sometimes I just couldn't be bothered. LOL But I'm back now and hope to post here more regularly. And since it has been a while there are a few things to cover in this post, so here goes.

WORD OF THE YEAR
Over at 123-Scrap! members are choosing a 'word' for the year and after much deliberation I have chosen FOCUS as my word for 2008. This encompasses a lot of areas of my life that I need to pay more attention to.
* I need to finish my weightloss journey and get to goal (and I am aiming for April)
* I want to spend more 'me' time doing the fun things I enjoy like scrapbooking, stamping and photography
* I want to become more financially savvy and get into saving mode big time this year!
So to remind me to FOCUS this year, I made myself a canvas which is in my craft room and I see it everytime I walk in.

CHRISTMAS IN SYDNEY
We had a great time in Sydney visiting with family and friends, but still managed to run out of time to do all of the things we wanted to and see all the people we wanted to.
I just can't believe how much time we spent in the car between one place and another! that is definitely something I don't miss about living in the city!
We all got pretty spoiled by Santa this year and as for me I got jewellery, perfume, lots of fun scrapbooking toys and bits and pieces. Gerard got the usual books, cd's, dvd's and some aftershave and shirts. The girls both got a digital camera each as well as clothes, books, cd's, dvd's and playstation 2 games.
It was so nice to spend Christmas with our families though as it had been 3 years since we had done that. It was also the first time I had been home since Dad passed so it was also a bit of an emotional time for me.
The journey home was a bit of a nightmare though. We were delayed by two and a half hours out of Sydney on Friday morning and then got to Perth only to find that the road to Kalgoorlie was still closed part way because of bushfires which had claimed the lives of three truck drivers. So we spent the night in Perth but when the road was still not open Saturday we took the long route home and spent 11hours on the road before finally making it home on Saturday night. Luckily though I had a couple more days off and only returned to work today. For some reason though I still feel like I need another few days to get over my holiday! lol

SCRAPBOOKING
I have started scrapping again and participating over at 123-Scrap! which I have really missed. It feels good to be doing something that is just for me! I plan to make sure I schedule time if I have to so that I can regularly scrap, stamp or just take time to be creative. So far I have done a few projects and these are some of them.

Some simple cards done using my new toy, a Cuttlebug.

An altered tin which was done for the January challenge at 123-Scrap!

WEIGHT WATCHERS
I am still plodding along, although the month off at xmas saw me put on 3kgs!!! Wish I could lose it that quickly! lol. But I got straight back on track the minute I got home from Sydney and am hoping for a good weigh in next week. As I mentioned I am aiming to be at goal by my birthday in April. It sure has taken me long enough!
