29 April 2010

Well today has been a real day of not doing much. This morning I worked at the RSPCA (no, I didn't get a real job. LOL It is an unpaid volunteer role and I work there two half days a week) and when I got home I was not feeling 100% at all so after I had some lunch I slept ... for 3 hours! And can you believe I am still tired!

I did snap this photo after I woke up though as I kept walking past my beautiful birthday flowers and thought I should get a pic of them before they are gone. I also wanted to share a pic of my new hall/entry table. We had been looking for the perfect table since we moved in last June and finally (after almost 10 months of searching) we found this. Who would have thought it would be so hard to find a table that is exactly 1 metre long! They were all 1.2 or 1.3 metres ... but finally we came across this one and I love it! The wood is a beautiful rich colour and it matches our bedroom furniture, which is just in the room to the left, and you can see it when the door is open so it's nice that they match :)
When the flowers are gone, I will try and find a nice bowl or something to sit in it's place. Or maybe I will just have to spoil myself with fresh flowers every week because I do like to see them whenever I walk past :)

Mmmmm ... my afternoon tea today. A freshly baked (delicious!) orange flavoured butterfly cake with fresh whipped cream and a nice hot cup of Earl Grey :)
And don't you love my new mug, I saw it in the gift shop at the Zoo last week of all places and of course I just had to have it. It came with an adorable matching lid!

WOYWW - 28 April 2010

I loved joining in over at the Stamping Ground for 'What's on your work desk Wednesday' last week and just loved seeing everyone elses spaces. Maybe I am just a big sticky-beak but it's such fun to check out other crafters rooms and see what they're up to. Which is why I decided to play again this week ... and I have a few photos to share today. Mainly because when I came in to photograph my desk this morning there was something big and hairy sitting on it, but luckily it only had 4 legs and not 8!! Check it out for yourself :)
(Oh and be sure to check out all of the pics, and you might spy some fun Stampin' Up! stuff that I received in this morning's post). Happy Birthday to me!!

Meet Coco ... my crafting buddy. I actually think she just likes to lay under the warm lamps, but I pretend it's because she wants to be close to me. lol If only she wouldn't insist on sitting right on top of whatever it is I am working on!
I did manage to get her to move a little to the side so you could get a better look ... she wasn't happy about it though.
Finally ... she is gone! This is what I am working on at the moment - trying to improve my colouring skills! lol I never did outrgrow my love of colouring-in and have been having fun playing with these digi images that I downloaded.
Oooh ... what is this on the side of my desk? Well that would be my goodies that arrived today courtesy of my dear friend Andrea. Thanks Andrea! She sent me some gorgeous ribbons, a beautiful Birthday accordian album that she made and some poetry dog tags (will have to hide these from the girls!) . I also got some Stampin' Up! stamps (ones that are not available here yet) some beautiful Ippity Stamps and some fun stuff for my new Big Shot which includes Bigz Dies, some sizzlets and two packets of the impressions plates - love these! Oh and I got some adorable little chocolate chip epoxy brads :)
And while I wasn't looking ... Coco decided she wasn't going to give up her spot under the lamp so easily and so she's back :) That's okay -for now! since I have other jobs to do before I can play today. Don't you hate it when life gets in the way of your crafting.
Be sure to pop over to WOYWW and see what everyone else is up to this week! The link isn't up yet, but I'm sure it's not far away. Probably has something to do with the fact that it's not quite Wednesday in some parts of the world. hehehe

You may look at this photo and wonder what on Earth I am doing taking a photo of a ratty old suitcase ... what is that saying 'a picture is worth a thousand words?' something like that anyway.
Well this picture speaks volumes about our lives at the moment. You see for the last couple of years my husband has spent a LOT of time working overseas (Africa and Papua New Guinea mostly) and in fact last year spent more than 150 days away from us.

When he comes home, he puts his well travelled suitcase in the corner and there it stays until he is ready to go again ... a constant reminder that he won't be here for long but also a nice reminder that he is home ... for now. That is why I decided to take this photo and why I decided to choose it for my POTD.

Take care and remember to treasure every minute you get to spend with the people you love.

Sweet Kiki and her puppy

I felt like colouring in last night so I printed out a heap of digi stamps and just sat down with my pencils ... very relaxing! Now I just have to add them to cards. This is the first one I have done. I have left it without a greeting since I don't know what I will use it for, but can add one later :)

My handsome hubby :)

Clean & Simple Challenge FTL87

This is the sketch for this week over at Clean & Simple Stamping.

And here is my card.

A little birdhouse

I saw one of these cute birdhouse cards done by Susan Joyce and just had to try it (especially since I am a birdhouse collector!)
I found the pattern at Victorine Originals and just printed it directly onto my cardstock. Not very happy with my little bird so I think I will have to practice with that one :)

Supplies: Cardstock - kraft, old olive, chocolate chip, very vanilla and bashful blue. Stamps: Woodgrain background. Punches: Sizzix leaf diecut, two step bird punch, scalloped edge border. Ink: Chocolate Chip. I have had the flowers in my stash for a looong time! not sure where they came from.

Today's photo was taken at Mullaloo Beach where we spent this afternoon lazing around and having a bbq with my cousin, her hubby and their beautiful daughter Aria. Who as you can see loved the swing!

My birthday recap (with lots of pics)

Firstly, I wanted to say thankyou to all of my wonderful friends who sent me RAK's, emails, FB messages and texts for my birthday yesterday! It was so lovely to get so many birthday wishes. I just thought I would share a few photos of my day with you before I head out to spend the afternoon having a picnic by the beach with my family.

My day started yesterday with my wonderful girls coming in at 7am to give me presents. Madison even made me a yummy cup of tea in bed while I open my gifts and all of the wonderful cards I had received. My main gift this year was my tickets to Sydney for the upcoming SU convention but this is what else I got from my family (the first is a handsfree dock/charger for the car for my iPhone)
Then for lunch Gerard did a sushi run for me and brought it home, along with some flowers from each of them that they had picked for me (Madison gave me the tulips, Claudia the roses and Gerard the mixed bunch of flowers).
And my special day ended with a beautiful dinner out at my favourite Italian restaurant Da Vinci's where they even had a yummy chocolate mudcake for me :) If you live in Perth and haven't been there, I definitely recommend it!
Plus I also got spoiled with even more gifts! My mum sent me a Myer gift voucher (which I used to buy a VS You Curl hair straightner/curler), my MIL sent me a lovely long sleeve top and I got a beautiful bottle of wine from a lovely Stamping friend :)
So as you can see I had a wonderful birthday and was a very lucky girl! And if you think you've seen enough photos for today ... stay tuned because I will be back later to post my official POTD pic. After all, these ones were actually all taken yesterday so don't count for todays POTD.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

My Birthday RAKs

I just thought I would share the Birthday RAKS (Random Acts of Kindness) that I received this week. They are all so different and so gorgeous! I just love seeing all of the wonderful ideas that people come up with.

POTD - Number 1!

Here is the first photo for my personal photo-a-day challenge. And since it is my birthday I figured it was only appropriate that I post a picture of the cards that I received.

All of the handstamped cards are from my talented friends on the Stampin' Up! in Oz yahoo group that I am in. I will put individual pics of them up in a separate post so you can get a better look at them :)

POTD - it's gonna happen!

My big plan at the beginning of the year was to start the 'Photo of the day' or 365 challenge that a few friends do on their blogs. I love the idea of having those little pics of our daily lives but somehow I never got started on time and it felt strange starting in February since it would only be like 346 days or something. lol Anyway, I thought with my birthday creeping up on me that it would be a good place to start ... and then I would have a great little record of my 41st year which I could put in a little album when I had finished. Who knows, maybe I can even scrap them along the way. Not sure if I will do a month to a page or a week ... we shall see :)

Anyway that is what I will do! And starting Saturday you will be able to see my little POTD posts. So stay tuned!

WOYWW - 21 April 2010

I have decided to start participating in the weekly challenge to post a pic of your desk each Wednesday. Aptly titled 'What's on your workdesk Wednesday' you can go HERE if you want to play along. Or even if you just want to look at the pics and discover (like I did) that I am not the only one whose desk looks like complete chaos while they are mid project! lol

Anyway, this is my first week playing and thankfully my desk is not toooo messy (given that I can see a large part of it for a change). But that is because I haven't really made anything in the last four days. I am currently planning a scrapbooking project believe it or not! so I just have some photos and bits and pieces on my desk while I select what I am going to use. There is also lots of other stuff still hanging around from the last few things I made ... so I must make sure I pack those away tomorrow.
But for now I am off to iron school uniforms and tidy up a bit. Hubby is coming home in the morning after being away since Easter so we are all pretty excited and I want to make sure the house is nice and 'shiny' when he gets back.

Happy stamping!

One card - two challenges

I decided to combine the following two challenges to make my card last night. The first one is a colour challenge from Just Add Ink and the second is a sketch challenge from Clean and Simple Stamping. Unfortunately I didn't have Barely Banana so substituted with So Saffron.

And here is my card. All supplies are Stampin' Up! Thanks for looking :)

Miss M Sings

Proud mother alert :) and I apologise in advance for the poor quality of the video. I just took it on my iPhone while she was doing guitar practice and it seems to have got worse between my phone and youtube! lol

Just Add Ink Sketch Challenge

OOPS ... just went to post this and realised I missed the cut off! Knew I should have photographed it last night instead of waiting for better light this morning. Oh well, maybe next week :)

Just a quick post, and then I have to run. Here is my card for this week's challenge over at Just Add Ink. I have kept this one very simple.

Cardstock and ribbon by Stampin' Up! in pretty in pink. Paper by Taylored Expressions and image by Stamping Bella. Like I said ... pretty simple :)

It's a Colour Renovation!

Well I made it home safe and sound from Albany last night and am itching to get my fingers inky! I should probably do the washing and get some food in the house first though ... then the girls will leave me to it when I lock myself in my craft room for the rest of the day :) There are some awesome new challenges up this week that I really want to have a play with.

In the meantime I thought I would post the new Colour Collections that Stampin' Up! will be releasing when the new Idea Book and Catalogue comes out in September. I am so excited about these new colour families, they are just gorgeous! There are five new additions to the permanent colours as well as 10 previous In-Colours which will be a permanent addition to the new collections.

Of course to make room for the new colours some of the old ones are being sent out to pasture. But the great thing is that we have plenty of notice so there is time for you to stock up if there are any that you really really love.

As for me, I am devastated to see Taken with Teal going as it is my absolute favourite colour and there is nothing else similar, however I am sure that the new gorgeous colours will help to console me :) And of course I will be sure to stock up big time before the end of August to make sure I have plenty to keep me going.

Here are the charts for the new colours. Note: that the ever popular Kraft has been re-named Crumb Cake (how cute is that name!) so it has not gone missing and will be of the Neutrals Collection. And just for your easy reference, here is a list of the retiring colours as they appear in their current colour families:

Glorious Green, Green Galore, Gable Green, YoYo Yellow, Only Orange, Pink Passion, Pixie Pink, Orchid Opulence, Lovely Lilac, Brilliant Blue

Pale Plum, Blush Blossom, Apricot Appeal, Barely Banana, Mellow Moss, Sage Shadow, Almost Amethyst, Lavender Lace

Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, Really Rust, Ruby Red, Cameo Coral, Summer Sun

Bordering Blue, Brocade Blue, Ballet Blue, Taken With Teal, Handsome Hunter.
