JAI #19 - and I got it WRONG!

Oops ... I had a quick look at the colour challenge this week over at Just Add Ink and went about my merry way. I was POSITIVE it was Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant and Tempting Turquoise ... but NO I was wrong, it was Taken with Teal instead. Oops! Of course I only realised it when I went to upload it just now and I am NOT remaking this little box. LOL So I may not be eligible for this weeks challenge, but I had fun anyway :) Lesson learnt ... read everything properly!

Anyway here is my little project, a 'Puckered Up' box template by Lauren Meader which I am going to fill with yummy sweets for someone special :) And if you want to play along, pop over to Just Add Ink and check it out for yourself ... don't take my word for it because I obviously don't know what I'm doing. hehehe

Supplies: Cardstock in Elegant Eggplant, Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise and Whisper White. Ink in Melon Mambo and Tempt Turquoise. Ribbon in melon mambo. Stamp sets are Tiny Sentiments and Vintage Vogue.

Convention Photos

Here are just some random photos of convention. I had a fantastic time and the highlight for me was definitely getting to meet so many of my internet and blogging friends! These are in no particular order. And if you would like to see some other Sydney photos, just scroll down to my previous entry where I have posted the pics of our first day in town.
Roomies! Left to Right: Nicola, Me, Charmaine and Leonie.
I was lucky enough to share my room with these three gorgeous ladies. We had such a great time!! And let me just say, what happens at convention STAYS at convention! LOL

Our First Day in Sydney

After arriving in Sydney on Wednesday night we went straight to our hotel at Darling Harbour and then waited up for our other room mates to arrive. So after what was a very late night we didn't get going until a little later on Thursday.
Leonie (my SU Upline) and I decided to take a look around Darling Harbour and then get a ferry to Circular Quay so that we could go and see the Opera House and then have a quick walk around the Botanical Gardens. Of course before doing this we stopped in at the Lindt Cafe for a delicious morning tea, where I had the most yummiest of chocolate cheesecakes!

Leonie outside the Lindt Cafe Just some of the yummy treats in the window! Waiting patiently for my chocolate cheesecake :) Leonie on the Ferry. We sat right up the front so we had a great view as we travelled under the Harbour Bridge. Leonie and I on the Ferry

Just checking in

Hello! I am still in Sydney but I am getting ready to head home to Perth tomorrow morning. It has been such a whirlwind of a trip, and I have lots of pics to share when I get back.

Convention was great! The best part for me was meeting so many of my internet friends from both my blog and the SU in Oz Raklist that I am on.

I also can't wait to get back home and play in my stamping room. Since I spent so much time before I left working on mum's album it feels like I haven't stamped in ages!

So stay tuned because I will have some photos up by the end of the week and hopefully even some cards to share because I have a few RAKS and thankyou cards to send out.

Happy Stamping!

18 May 2010

Well things have been hectice trying to get organised for my trip to Sydney tomorrow for convention! I have been busily working on my mum's album and am happy to say that 22 pages later it is finished and ready to give to her when I get there :) I can't wait to see her reaction! Plus I had a couple of card swaps to finish and mail out before I left.

Hubby arrived back from PNG at about 1am this morning and so I am spending the day with him and just sorting a few last things out. I have been mostly packed for the last couple of days so I am pretty much ready to go!

I will be sure to share all of the exciting convention news and photos when I get back ... as well as play catch up on some photos of the day! So much for the best intentions I had with that huh ;)

Have a wonderful week and stay safe! See you when I get back :)

POTD #15

... and on time too! Toffee got a haircut today and she looked sooo cute! She celebrated her first birthday last week.

POTD #14

Finally caught up on my POTD pics ... just getting around to downloading them. The last couple were taken with my iPhone because I keep forgetting to keep my camera handy when I go out. Must make a mental note to do that more from now on!
How freaky is this photo? I took it today with my iPhone while I was waiting for my cousin to pick me up (for a trip to Ikea of course). I must have been standing too close to the front window or something because this was exactly how it came out, I haven't touched it at all with any editing!

POTD #13

It is starting to get really cold in the mornings and the evenings but we are still enjoying some beautiful warm days, so are making the most of it while we can. And Lucy just loves her walks to the park with Madison.

POTD #12

Beautiful artwork sent to me by my gorgeous nephew Corey (5 years old) to hang in my craft room. It is 'A boy in his boat looking at a sea monster'. I just LOVE it! It makes me smile every time I look at it, and it hangs right above my computer :)

Blogger Awards!

Wow .. there have been so many Blog Awards doing the rounds and I have been fortunate to have been awarded SIX recently!

Two were Sunshine Awards (from Andrea and Sonia)

And the other four were Beautiful Blogger Awards (from Danielle, Karen, Christine and Kerri)For this award I have to pass it on to 10 other beautiful bloggers AND tell you 10 things about myself that you may not already know. Obviously I would like to pass it back to the people that gave it to me, but will resist the temptation to do that so as not to create a continual circle of blog awards. LOL
1. Gretchen Clark
2. Fiona Platzer
3. Nikki Stalker
4. Tamara Sirl
5. Makeesha Byl
6. Nikki Pascoe
7. Andrea's Scraps
8. Leonie (my lovely upline .. who is celebrating her birthday today so if you stop by be sure to leave her some love!)
9. Pam
10. Sue

And now for 10 totally random things about me :)

1. I am addicted to diet coke and chocolate
2. I have never had a broken bone
3. I was born and bred in Sydney but moved to WA two days after I got married (in 1994) and have been here ever since.
4. I hate coffee ... in fact anything coffee flavoured (even chocolate!)
5. I am terrible at public speaking, I get the worst nerve rash, my eyes water and I even stutter!
6. I almost drowned in the ocean when I was 12 and am only here today thanks to the lifeguard that saved me ... I have never swum at the beach since.
7. I have had the same best friend since I was in grade 2. And now my mum and her dad (after both losing their respective partners to cancer) are living together - as a couple ... weird? you bet! I am still adjusting to this development, some days are better than others.
8. I have always wanted to learn sign language, but never have (yet)
9. I have never been out of Australia (but am finally getting a passport and we hope to travel to the US next year).
10. I got a splinter (actually it's the tip of a pencil or texta) in the palm of my hand when I was about 10 and it is still there. Doctors have tried to remove it over the years to no avail so I just leave it there. It doesn't hurt and it's funny to watch people's faces when they touch it :)

There you go ... a lot of nothing that you probably didn't need to know! lol I look forward to reading what everyone else write :)

POTD #11

No, it is not snowing on my back patio. This is the path of destruction I awoke to after Lucy (the big dog) managed to get the pillow out of Toffee's (the small dog) kennel in the morning before I could put it out of her reach.

I am sure they both had fun playing tug-o-war with it, but it is Lucy that tends to rip apart any pillow or stuffed toy that she can manage to get into her mouth.

As you can see, they are both utterly exhausted from their 'fun' and are sleeping it off. And now I am off to clean it all up!

Recipe Share - Rasberry and Coconut Muffins

After my recent post showing a photo of the muffins I made, I received a couple of requests for the recipe so I thought I may as well just post it here! Trust me, these muffins are DIVINE! And even nicer served warm with fresh cream :) I am sure you could also substitue the rasberries for blueberries or even the frozen mixed berries ... hmmm maybe I will try that next time!
2.5 cups (375g) self-raising flour
90g butter, chopped
1 cup (220g) caster sugar
1.25 (310ml) buttermilk
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/3 cup (30g) desiccated coconut
150g fresh or frozen rasberries
2 tablespoons shredded coconut

1. Preheat oven to moderately hot (approx. 180deg celcius or 160 for a fan forced oven). Grease a 12 hole muffin pan.

2. Place flour in a large bowl; using fingertips, rub in butter. Add sugar, buttermilk, egg, desiccated coconut and rasberries; using a fork mix until just combined.

3. Divide mixture among holes of prepared pan; sprinkle with shredded coconut.

4. Bake for about 20 minutes. Stand muffins for 5 minutes before turning onto a wire rack to cool.

Makes 12. Prep time 10 mins. Baking time 20 mins.
Recipe from the Women's Weekly cooking class Cakes book.

A productive day so far

Well I set out to get a few things crossed off my stamping to-do list today and so far I am doing quite well. I have finished my GTKY swap card and letter (getting to know you) and it is ready to mail out this afternoon.

I have also cut and prepared everything for our Stamperoo swap (16 cards) which is next week. So all I have to do is add the images and they will be done as well. And it's only lunchtime!

Once I have finished those swaps off I can get back to the album I am working on and then hopefully try and come up with an idea for my convention swaps. That is the one thing I am struggling with at the moment!

Oh well, lunch break is over ... back to work! Here is one of the cards I have made so far today. This was totally inspired (and mostly cased!) from a beautiful card Louise Ryan made for the recent Mothers Day swap.

Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Bashful Blue
Ink: Bashful Blue
Stamps: Full of Life
Misc: Big Shot and Top Note die, chocolate chip grosgrain ribbon, flower punches, chocolate chip brads, sewing machine.

Happy Stamping!

WOYWW - 5 May 2010

Is it really Wednesday again already? Another week has flown by, so I guess that means it is time for 'What's on your workdesk Wednesday' over at Julia's Stamping Ground. This is what my desk looks like this morning (minus the kitty this week!) The second pic is to the left of my desk and I am using it just as extra space while I work on my pages. It is usually my cutting station for my big shot and cuttlebug.
At the moment I am working on an album for my mum with photos of a surprise 60th birthday that we had for her. It is definitely not my usual scrapbooking style (or colours) but I wanted to match the theme of the party as well as keep all of the colours and embellishments the same throughout the album, for continuity purposes.

So for this reason I am just using three colours (basic black, riding hood red and whisper white), as well as some designer paper in riding hood red, some flower punches, some 'bling' and the flourish stamp from the Baroque Motifs stamp set by Stampin' Up! to match the stamp that I had used on her original invitation.

I am only onto my third page so far but I am hoping that it will all come together pretty quickly. Especially since I have a few RAKs to get out, a swap to finish (with 16 cards) as well as make a start on my swaps for convention which is only a few weeks away. Maybe I should spend less time at the computer and more time at my desk huh! lol

I can't wait to have a snoop around everyone elses work desks this week.

POTD #10

Yesterday's photo (yes I am a day late) didn't come from my camera. My hubby emailed me this from Papua New Guinea this morning. He took it yesterday when he was out in the bush/jungle, and came across these gorgeous little frogs. They are just sooo tiny! and I thought they were so cute that I had to share them with you :) Much nicer than the awful spiders and snakes he usually comes across when he's working out there!
